I came across an interesting article this morning. It was an interview with Dr. Gary Small who is a memory, brain and aging expert at Hackensack Meridian Health in New Jersey. He was asked what are the things that, beyond genetics, have the greatest impact on longevity. The number one thing the Dr Small mentioned was to Stay Positive!
“Optimists have fewer physical and emotional difficulties, experience less pain, enjoy higher energy levels and are generally happier and calmer in their lives.” Dr Small went on to say “Optimism also has been shown to boost the body’s immune system so that we can better fight infection.”
We as a society are always looking for the magic pill, the secret sauce or the easy answer. Apparently the answer is right in front of us, Stay Positive! Much of social media relies on sensationalist stories and negativity to drive clicks. If we let it, these influences can have a profound negative effect on our psyche. We need to push back on these influences and the best way to do so is to choose to be positive! Positivity leads to Optimism and Optimism fuels Resilience. Being Resilient is a key ingredient to being a Grinder and as we all know, Grinders Win!
