In 2021, a former walk-on led the University of Georgia to a national championship in college football.
Stetson Bennett IV dreamed of such a storybook ending when he was a boy growing up in Blackshear, Georgia. He was not heavily recruited out of high school, so he decided to walk on at UGA as a freshman. Buried in the depth chart, he left after a season to play at a junior college to gain experience.
After a year at Jones County Junior College, he went back to UGA, this time as a scholarship player but still buried in the depth chart. Like a true Grinder, he kept to his mission and, against all odds, eventually became the starting quarterback.
As they say, the rest is history!
The lesson, of course, is that we all need to turn our dreams into goals. We need to create a plan to achieve our goals and we have to ruthlessly go about pursuing them. Whether you win a national championship or not, this pattern of behavior is sure to serve you well in life. Act like a Grinder and you will succeed like a Grinder!
