Brian Conroy has spent a lifetime overcoming obstacles and achieving his goals through discipline and hard work. At the core of all his work lies inspirational leadership, passion, and balance.
Brian’s well-known “Grinders Win” philosophy was born out of his need to manage acute asthma when he was young. Brian was an overweight kid who was unable to keep up with the others in the neighborhood. He tried out for a youth football team and was told he was too heavy to participate—that was the spark that ignited a fire within him. That fire led him to push himself physically to make the team and taught him, as painful as it was, to push the boundaries of his affliction. The result was improved breathing and a changed life.
Brian carried that approach to Dartmouth College, where he lettered in both varsity football and baseball. As a two-sport varsity walk-on at Dartmouth in the 1980s, Brian learned there is no substitute for enthusiasm and energy, and that there are many ways to help a team regardless of position or playing time. Post college, he kept grinding his way through a distinguished career on Wall Street. During his three-decades-plus career, he faced many challenges, whether it was helping to usher in the use of technology for trading or resurrecting moribund businesses domestically or internationally.
Today, Brian spends his time working with entrepreneurs and organizations, helping them to overcome challenges and get to the next level. Drawing from over three decades of innovative leadership, Brian embraces the mantra that positive change comes to those organizations that are willing to innovatively disrupt themselves.
Brian believes that, like the Taoist philosophers, people operate best when they can remain flexible and balanced. He practices this in his own life through his ultra-marathon running, his commitment to his faith, the energy he gets from his professional pursuits, and his focus on his family.
Now, with Grinders Win, he is turning his energy toward creating a space where positivity and optimism take center stage.
